The half-moon shone like a claw in the cloudless jet-black sky. The wintry wind stirred the crisp air to life, sending unsettled flakes of trampled flakes of ice across the snow-laden plain. Old tracks and scents of rabbit snaked a distinct path through tall bushes of prickly gorse; the prey had fetched up through the landscape to its warren as night had fallen. A red fox darted along the track hopefully with his dark pointed nose held close to the ground. Compared to the whiteness of the snow, his fur was as bright as fire. Suddenly, his huge ears swivelled and his wet nose picked up a new scent. Cats! He darted away in the shadows of the brush: being young, instinct dictated that it just wasn’t profitable to fight two cats by himself.
The cat in the lead came over a bank of snow and stretched out her front paws. “Mrrrrrow! It’s a great night to be out!” Poppytail meowed. She popped up from her stretch and shook her white-and-orange pelt free of the snow. “Doesn’t smell like any warriors are out—of course, I’ve never known of any warriors to dare trespass at moonrise.”

Nightpaw looked at Poppytail, answering gravely, "Except those wanting to run our clan out, like what Shadowclan had done years ago." Her eyes showen grief for her fellow Windclan ansestors. She sniffed the air, getting a clean cold air in her lungs. She looked at Poppytail to tell her what was going to happen on this patrol. Her tail cureled with exsitment.
